Sahuaro Cougar Foundation Scholarship & Grants

Scholarship

The Cougar Foundation Scholarship will provide two $1200 scholarships, for one male and one female Sahuaro senior planning to attend an Arizona school.

Qualification/Eligibility

  • US Citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Cumulative GPA:  2.5 – 3.4
  • High School Senior who will enroll at a U.S. accredited two or four-year Arizona college, university or institution of higher learning full time during school year 2013-2014.
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participating in community service, extra- curricular or other service-based activities.
  • Have strong motivation to continue their education

The Russell Public Scholarship

In 2012, Russell Public Communications established the Russell Public Scholarship to provide educational enrichment opportunities for Sahuaro High School alumni. A minimum of one, non-renewable $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year, and the funds may be applied to any accredited college or university in the United States. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a 4-year degree in political science, public administration, communications or journalism.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be seniors at Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Arizona, and citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applicants must also completely fill out the application, submit a current and sealed copy of their high school transcripts and submit all required materials by 5:00 pm on April 1.

David Ashcraft Artist-Scholar Award

Criteria:

  • The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Sahuaro High School
  • A 3.2 cumulative GPA (as of the end of the 7th semester) must be maintained
  • The recipient must be currently enrolled in a Fine Arts class at Sahuaro (i.e. Band, Choir, Dance,
    Orchestra, Theatre Arts or Visual Arts).

The recipient should demonstrate involvement in extra-curricular activities and community service.  The recipient must be bound for post-high school study (any area of emphasis) with the intent to continue Fine Arts involvement in school or in the community.  The recipient should epitomize the qualities of an outstanding Fine Arts student (i.e. artistry, leadership, dedication, motivation, initiative, cooperation etc.).

Selection Process:

The Ashcraft Artist-Scholar Award recipient will be chosen by the Sahuaro Fine Arts Department faculty in the spring prior to the publication of the Awards Assembly Program. The name of the recipient will be forwarded to the chair of the Sahuaro Awards Committee. The recipient’s name, and an accompanying résumé, will be forwarded to David Ashcraft.

Award:

A $500 cash scholarship will be made payable directly to the student’s account at the institution (i.e. community college, college, university, conservatory, institute, art or design school etc.) that the recipient will be attending, for use by the individual. The scholarship award is non-renewable.

A permanent plaque will be displayed at the school with the names of the award recipients.

Mini Grant Application

The purpose of the Sahuaro Cougar Foundation's Mini Grant Program is to provide start-up or initial funding for new and innovative projects originating within the classroom and/or school.  These grants provide the opportunity for rapid implementation of these projects. 

The Mini-Grant Program supports Sahuaro Cougar Foundation's objective of stimulating innovation in the classroom and within our school and gives the Sahuaro Cougar Foundation the opportunity to recognize and award Sahuaro High School teachers for developing excellence in their classrooms and school.

Who May Apply
Any teacher or other certified staff member from Sahuaro High School.  This includes classroom teachers, principals, social workers, counselors, athletic coaches, school nurses, psychologists, and other educators.

Other Information

  • Grant proposal may be partially funded.
  • Self-Evaluation will be required following all funded projects.
  • Any unused monies are to be returned to the Sahuaro Cougar Foundation.
  • All funded projects will be visited by a Sahuaro Cougar Foundation Board or Staff member.

The Cougar Foundation Scholarship will provide two $500 scholarships, for one male and one female Sahuaro faculty or staff member.

Sahuaro Cougar Foundation Assisted Many This Year

The Sahuaro Cougar Foundation is excited to announce its support of various projects that benefited current Sahuaro High School students. Membership and donations from generous alumni and friends helped make the following happen:

  • Sponsored breakfast for students receiving 3.8 GPA or better
  • Sponsored a student for the HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth) scholarship
  • Helped to pay for a student to attend Boys State
  • Donated monies for three teachers' classes in the Life Skills Project for Adaptive Education classes
  • Helped five students pay for AP Tests
  • Helped to send a student to Earth Camp at the UA
  • Assisted a teacher with a Marine Biology project
  • Gave $200 to each of  the six students (2 Freshmen; 2 Sophomores; 2 Juniors) who received the Cougar Spirit Award
  • Gave two $1200 scholarships to one male and one female senior to attend an AZ college or university
  • Paid for the plaques for Sahuaro High School Awards Program to recognize students with a GPA of 4.0
